Some Past Performances at Golden Hill Community Center

From Wickenburg, AZ, to Des Moines, Iowa... from New York City to the Suwanee River, Cowboy Envy is doing its part to keep western music from being lost in the shuffle.  With a healthy respect for the traditional and the familiar, these folks give cowboy music their own special touch — or should we say brand. They are all solo singers, songwriters and musicians in their own right and bring a variety of influences to this music... recreating the old and creating the new in the western style.

When she writes, singer/songwriter Libby Eason starts with music and mood. “I hang out somewhere between tough and extremely vulnerable, and that’s where my writing is,” she says. Her music reflects a variety of influences and includes elements of folk, country, and blues, but Eason is hesitant to categorize her work. “My songs are definitely from a woman writer’s point of view,” she observes. “People have told me my songs capture ambiguity. I like that. To me, life’s not all black and white.”

Echo Lake recording artist Ray Chesna is an outstanding guitarist and singer with an engaging, playful mix of Western swing, rockabilly, and blues licks in handcrafted songs that'll make ya smile.  He'll be playing often-humorous songs from both his "Every Day Above Ground Is a Good One" album and an upcoming CD, including "Hi'a Cynth," "Banty Rooster," and "Make Your Own Music."

Vince Bell is not your typical Texas singer-songwriter. His music is more art song than folk song, more Jacques Brel than Woody Guthrie. His first instrument was the cornet, and his favorite songwriter, when he was growing up in the '60s, was John Lennon. He's easier to compare to David Crosby or Joni Mitchell than to Willie or Waylon.  At 47, Bell has written hundreds of songs. He has been recording and performing since the early '70s and has won the admiration of such artists as Nanci Griffith, who covered his "Sun and Moon and Stars," and Lyle Lovett, who recently recorded Bell's "I've Had Enough" on his Lone Star songwriters' tribute Step Inside This House.
